2015 Pinot Noir "Slice of Heaven"
It's interesting how each new bottling unfolds. In the last couple of vintages of Slice, I thought the dominant early characteristic was earth. Now as I smell this 2015 effort, the dominant characteristic is fruit. It's like cherry-raspberry fruit roll with a clove, allspice dough baked into the middle. Don't get me wrong, there is an earthiness also present. When you hail from the most centrally located vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, it's unavoidable. Right now this strikes me as the kind of wine that will start to drink like velvet when it's about 5 years old. If you can't wait that long for it to become seamless, this wine has the most beautiful rough edges you have ever tasted, right now.
