Cabernet Franc is like the mischievous, atavistic brother of Cabernet Sauvignon. In Europe, Cab Franc does not produce the aristocratic aroma and flavor of Cabernet Sauvignon that has been the favorite of nobility over the centuries. Cab Franc’s wines are usually a spicier twist on blueberry and blackberry, and are potentially more herbal. Personally, I like Cab Franc for its earthy mystery.
This bottling is a return to a more classic varietal expression of Cab Franc. It offers a classic, herbal, flinty edge that could easily be mistaken for a good bottle coming out of France’s Loire Valley. Its fruit really drives straight through, start to finish, and the result is absolutely stunning. Should age nicely as well.
